You can reduce the stills to fit in PP which should reduce the
resolution. Highlight the clip in the timeline and right click it. You
can then select "Scale to frame size". Another way is to highlight the
clip in the timeline and then go to the Effects Control panel, in the
panel go under MOTION>SCALE and scale the clip up and/or down.
EDIT>PREFERENCES>GENERAL>DEFAULT SCALE TO FRAME SIZE can also be used
to activate "Scale to Frame size" automatically, however it must be
utilized BEFORE the stills are imported.
