Hi,
I am planning to design an build an editing system for use with
premiere.
I haven't been able to settle on the following issues owing to my
limited knowledge of computer technology. Your input would be very
useful and gratefully acknowledged
1. single processor Vs multi processor systems: I know that the
current quad core chips are 4 processors together. But what I mean is
a mother board that would support single or two processor systems.

2. FSB: there are chips with 1066, 1333, 1600 bus speeds. I believe
that higher the speed, higher is the information speed. but it has
added costs of higher memory and better motherboard etc. Would the
quality and speed supercede the cost.

3. Type of Chips: Intel Vs AMD. I guess I am going for Intel as they
"appear" to have better chips. In Intel, should I chose Xeon or the
convention chips based on Core2 Duo technology? With Xeon I get FSB
1600 and also motherboards that can hold 2 chips. So I can go for a
system supporting two quad core Xeons.

4. OS compatibility: I guess with Xeon, it would jump to 64 bit
system. In such a case would windows Vista and XP 64 bit versions do a
good job?

5. FINALLY, the most important issue is the ability of Premiere to
exploit such a system. There is no point in building a high
performance system, if Premiere can't exploit its benefits. SO would
premiere work on a multiprocessor system exploiting the availability
of multiple processors and high Bus speed and high RAM.

THank you for your kind suggestions.
Best wishes
Arul
