Hi all.

I am running PPro CS3 on Vista Ultimate 32 bit, with a 3.2GHz Intel P4, 2Gb
memory, 80Gb C drive (not even half full) and 250Gb D drive for scratch, with
about 40Gb free space.

I have a longish sequence sitting on the timeline in PPro CS3. It's just under
two hours total and consists of a few photographs (jpegs), usual text copyright
composed in the Titler, a title, the remainder of the entire workspace taken up
with an mpeg continuous clip with video on Video 1 and linked audio on Audio 1,
plus quite a few clips of avi on Video 2, with the usual transitions (mostly
cross-fades) between the video tracks. The entire sequence finishes with a few
more jpegs that have been zoomed, positioned and trimmed with transitions
between each one and there are markers for Encore authoring spread across the
entire sequence. Nothing especially exotic!

My problem is that I originally had the entire job on another PC with plenty of
HDD space, also 2Gb memory and a Core 2 Duo processor, and I attempted to
export the entire sequence to Encore. The process took several hours so I ran
it over night and when I returned PPro had crashed. It had stopped at around
95% of pass 1 of rendering before exporting, suffered an unknown error and "Had
to close"! Fortunately, all of its internal files were OK and I was able to
re-load the project, but of course there was no exported file.

I notice that the red/green line indicator showing render status is a small
part green where I have rendered some short sections, but it is red above each
avi clip on Video 2 and grey on the parts that are only occupied by mpeg on
Video 1. I can't say I've noticed any grey bits before, but I wonder if this is
normal?

Anyway, because the original crash happened around 95% I thought there might be
something wrong with the tail end of the sequence, although it plays fine on
the timeline, so I decided to render the last 10%, which although a bit slow,
it did without crashing. That's when I transferred the entire project to
another PC. Then I tried to render the entire sequence, not export it, and that
ran for at least 10 hours before it too crashed at about 97%. I am currently
rendering the first 50% on its own which AP says should be done in about 5
hours. If that works I'll render the last 50% which I suspect will work.

If both halves render ok separately, what do I do about exporting to Encore so
that I have a complete sequence ready for DVD? Although I'm interested in
preventing the crashes, I just want to get this project finished and canned!

Regards,

Alan.
