I don't know if there is an inexpensive option, but there are options.
You may want to convert the files using Cineform, which is pricey at
$500 new but can be found on E-Bay between $50 and $150 dollars and
has excellent results. Be sure to install it properly, I had a friend
who was using this to edit his movie and an improper install shut him
down for over 2 weeks while he explored why Premiere continued to
crash on him.

There is also the Matrox codec, which I use out of necessity (I have a
full Matrox system) but can be used on systems that don't have the
Matrox hardware installed to increase render speed. I don't know how
much these codecs run but they look great as well.
