Yes, there are different flavors of HDV, sad to say, at least for the
Sony HDV 1080i standard. You hit the nail on the head: in PAL
countries, it's 25 fps; in NTSC it's 29.97 fps. I've imported 1080i
PAL footage into Premiere, which handled it pretty well and converted
it to 29.97 fps output. I haven't gone the other direction, though. I
suspect it should work pretty well, but you'll probably need a PAL
HDV recorder to put it to tape (if that's what you're trying to do).
It's too bad they didn't settle on a single standard, but you know
what they say about standards: The nice thing about them is that
there are so many of them to choose from.
