You need to make sure that there is sufficient ‘lead in’ and ‘lead out’ to or
on the next clip when you scroll and hold down <cntrl> (or command on a MAC).
With effects, it needs some room to move things about between the clips,
sometimes it seems to just get lost….

If there is say for instance, 200 frames, then you need an edit at 40 frames,
to cut to the 50’th frame, removing the 10 frames, and you need/have an effect
there, it has nothing to work with in between. I always shoot ‘wide’, leaving
a few seconds at least before, then maybe the same amount after. Depends on
the shoot and events. When previewing the clip, I add an In point after 3-4
seconds, then an Out point (hitting I and O respectively) with the same delay
before the end. Then use the normal , or . to dump it on the CTI (current time
indicator) position or whatever you want.

It does seem to lock up at some times even after you follow these rules, maybe
it’s a bug, or something we forgot (that’s too obvious) sometimes that’s beyond
our control, so do the reverse edit (<cmd> or <Ctrl> V) a few times and hope it
see’s what you want.

Cheers,

B.
