The GeForce GTX280 card is also recognized by the Mercury engine in CS5. If
any of you have this card, try letting Mercury use it before you shell out some
$$$ for an upgrade.
I was reading several posts about upgrading video cards to take advantage of
CS5's GPU acceleration and saw the GTX 285 was a compatible card. Hmmmm ... I
have a GeForce GTX280, and figuring the card's architecture was really similar
to the later model, I added the GTX280 to the CUDA text file.
WOW! Backward compatibility worked for me.
My PPro CS5 projects went from mostly a red bar to yellow. I can scrub/preview
AVCHD video without any hesitation (even with two or three video filters on the
clip). My project output render times were also reduced by an amazing 25%.
I'm using a X58 MoBo with an intel i940 cpu (no o/c), and 12G Ram.
Hope this helps someone else.
