They do "open" (almost) , I just did one two days ago. What happens, though,
is that it'll create a new slightly renamed project (I think _1 is appended)
but I immediately changed _1 to "CS5" for clarity. It will also display an
advisory so stating. All the resources will load just fine. Remember to save
the new project. You'll end up having both projects on the computer but you
don't actually need CS4 anymore so once you are happy with the new project
file, the old CS4 version can be discarded.

Subject: [AP] CS4 > CS5 backward compatible?
Hello All,
I'm pretty sure i remember someone stating that CS4 projects will not
open (at all? Correctly?) in CS5. Say it ain't so! I'm about to install CS5
this week. How should i Proceed with this? Install it separately & keep both
versions on the PC, or "upgrade" if indeed that is even possible (never done
that).
Happy Holidays to all & thanks to everyone here for all their
extraordinary help & patience!
Adriane
