Steve

The problems likely have nothing to do with Office. I have both Office 2010
and the CS5 Production suite and have no conflicts (which, of course,
doesn't itself prove very much). Actually, Office is known to be one of the
best written software packages. Win 7 is also a very solid program (although
its sheer number of configuration options often confound even highly trained
software experts). In any case, I would not rush to blame either Office 2010
or Win7 for these problems.

The first thing I usually do is to run a thorough memory diagnostic - it's
not uncommon for bad memory to cause nonsensical problems; problems that
defy rules of logic. Second, we all have heard how malware can sometimes
cause strange behaviors, and that is one value a reinstall of the OS gives,
it gets rid of malware. It goes without saying you had both no anti-virus
software running and the firewall disabled during the Office install.

If you know the memory is good and the system is correctly configured, then
there should be some recognizable logic to the problems - perhaps you can
keep your eyes open for more definitive clues?

Subject: [AP] Conflict between Office Home & Business 2010 & CS5 Production
Premium?

Is anyone aware of conflicts between Office 2010 and CS5? I installed Office
2010 yesterday and have been in a world of hurt ever since. Machine is a
custom build, Windows 7, i7 960. First had problems opening PowerPoint and
spent several hours with Microsoft Support, finally creating a new user
account. But my computer still isn't working correctly. Even though Office
runs as it should, it seems to be causing conflicts with a number of
programs in CS5 Production Premium. Some programs, like SoundBooth, just
won't open. Premiere is very slow to open when it does I can no longer hear
audio from the programs I'm editing. In short, I've been living a nightmare
and I feel I've been victimized by Microsoft. I've reached the point where
I'm about to uninstall Office and toss it in the trash bin - and do a total
reinstall of my OS. Any insights would be appreciated.
Cheers, Steve
