Transcoding time is not a constant. I find that the transcoding time varies
greatly depending on the video. If there are effects or especially color
correction, it can take more than twice the time than it does just for straight
video.

However, I tend to go with mp4 only for those cases where the timeline is
derived from four multi cameras, after which the camera files are deleted. This
regains a tremendous amount of disk space. This HQ H.264 file can later be
edited slightly in PPro (such as titles or transitions).

But for going directly to a DVD I tend to let Premiere Pro transcode to mpeg,
although Encore can do it just as well.

Thanks all for your response. I will try Reini's suggestion.

I have another question, for a one hour video exporting to MP4.
In your experience, how long does it typically take to export a one hour video
from the premiere pro file to MP4?

I believe I have a relatively fast computer:
HP Pavilion Elite HPE-360z PC
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• AMD Phenom(TM) II X6 1090T six-core processor [3.2GHz, 3MB L2 + 6MB L3
shared,
up to 4000MHz]
• 8GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMs]
• 1.5TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
• 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 320 [DVI, HDMI, VGA] (Graphics Card)

Somehow it takes almost 8+ hours for my video to convert. Do you suppose there
is something wrong in my system or is this a typical length of time to export?

Your comments are greatly appreciated,
CB

Uwe is likely correct; I checked mine and the Multiplexing dropdown is MP4.
However, I did not consciously set it, it probably was set automatically by
the preset.

Nothing wrong getting two files but if you don't want that check the
multiplexer settings.
You have probably selected "none"
Change to "Mp4"
