My first suspicion would be that the footage the camera or capture device is
making is actually 856x480. However, you can double-check the input file by
using gspot, a free downloadable utility that will display to you all of the
parameters of just about any type of video file ever made.

Also, I don't know anything about v7, but all the more recent versions I've
used have Sequence Presets one can use when setting initializing a sequence.
If yours has that, what preset applies to the HVR-VIU - I couldn't tell from
Sony's marketing blurb what it should be? (Actually, that might not matter
because I don't think PPro converts it anyway)

Anyway, start with gspot.

Subject: [AP] Premier Pro V 7.0 - apect ratios - frame sizes

Hello all

I have a question regarding apect ratios - frame sizes in PPro.

Importing HDV 1080i footage from a SONY HVR-V1U 3 chip camcorder
I expected the input footage to be 16:9 and to show in bin as
1440x1080 pixels.

However what I observe is 856x480 frame size with PAR of 1.0

How does this relate to 1440, which is what I thought the camera
recording at HDV 1080i would deliver?

What am I missing? Where are the missing pixels?

Content displays in editing interface, and plays out to TV as 16:9,
but is it 1440x1080?

I have Googled and Wiki'ed extensively but no clarity as to how
I might better understand how PPro lists frame size for this content.

Another aspect of this is how setting project parameters might engage here.

I tried manually setting a new test project to 1440x1080 pixel dimension,
but when I imported the HDV 16:9 footage I got an error message and the
imported footage again was listed as 856x480, I believe with a PAR of 1.2

Any thoughts, comments or pointers much appreciated.

All best regards

Mark McLaughlin
