A USB port provides 5 volts DC at *up to* 500 milliamps current. Some devices
use a USB cable with a parallel connected second plug (just the power wires) to
get extra current.
If the device needs more than 5 volts then it has to use a separate power
supply. It might be possible to connect the second plug in series to get 10
volts but I doubt that would be a good idea, might cause damage to the
computer's USB power circuitry.
