All the crashes and clipping issues were really a problem of incorrect
models. I figured out values that work and it looks a lot better now.
Still have to figure out why the character shadow isn't rendered at
all ...

I'm also wondering about the general robustness of the code. It
shouldn't crash by getting a value in a model wrong :-).

And there needs to be documentation. Now that I have something to play
with, I'll try to wrap my brain around the stuff and see if I can at
least define how a valid model should look like.
