Hi:
We do in fact define a device c;lass of file and back up the DB and critical config
files to a directory, which is then written to an 8MM tape outside the 3494 library
and taken offsite daily.

I've wondered what would happen if we lost the database and TSM and we could use the
tape library.

Well, you could define a Devclass of DEVType=FILE for this purpose,
and then install like a 36GB hard drive inside a safe, or safe-like
device, and automatically have a, um, safe copy, with no extra
effort on your part. Differential SCSI cables have quite a reach.
