Sharing info. I've been 'hit' by the anr8355e messages after upgrading to 3.7.3.8. I've included the apar information below for those how may not have noticed messages appearing in their actlog. FYI Thanks Tim * I went to 3.7.3.8 because of frequent core dumps because of expiration.* Item IC28133 APAR Identifier ...... ANR8336I Verifying label of 3590 volume 000684 in drive RMT16 (/dev/rmt16). ANR8355E I/O error reading label for volume 000684 in drive RMT16 (/dev/rmt16). ANR8468I 3590 volume 000684 dismounted from drive RMT16 (/dev/rmt16) in library 3494_B0. Problem only happens with D/T3570 and D/T3590 devices. LOCAL FIX: There is probably no problem with the tape. Run AUDIT VOLUME FIX=NO to verify TSM can read the tape label. PROBLEM SUMMARY: **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * Customers using 3570 and 3590 devices on the HP, AIX, and SUN platforms. **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * The problem may appear intermittently depending on the operating system level. The problem only occurs after TSM reached the end-of-volume while writing data to the tape cartridge. If TSM immediately dismounts the volume, there may be an erroneous ANR8355E message while verifying the internal tape label. If TSM leaves the volume mounted and there are drive or media problems when TSM attempts to read the data, TSM may not issue an ANR8302E or ANR8311E message. **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * Apply PTF when available. **************************************************************** TSM better tracks error situations to avoid issuing erroneous messages and to issue messages when there are errors. Impact: Low Customer can issue AUDIT VOLUME with FIX=NO to determine if there is any problem with the media and data. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: None.
