What combinations of client/server code are acceptable?

Is it ok to run 4.1.1 client code and backup to a 3.7.x server?
Is it ok to run 3.7.x client code and 4.1.x server code?

I guess it�s a two-fold question. What is supported by Tivoli? What works in
practice?
