Has anybody been successful restoring "shares"?

The share information is not kept in the directories themselves.
Instead Microsoft stores this info in the registry. To restore
all share info requires restoring the registry key in addition
to the directories.

Restoring the Data/Directories on a Windows NT 4.0 system does not restore
the "shares". Is this the expected behavior or a bug?
Any ideas or suggestions?
