U have to do both on OS and TSM .
For OS u have to go to IBM WEB SITE and u will see tons of info on that.
As per TSM it also has parameters ex: window size etc. in implementation of
Tivoli REDBOOKS ON IBM SITE.
For tape drives u got to look at their respective sites.
PL use compressed mode on clients for better n/w xfer rate
and keep tcp/ip speed at 100mbs /sec .Configure I/f accordingly.
Keep patches on OS sever and clients up to date to avoid memory leaks.
Its a very long info u need to do lot of home work and go to respective web
sites.\
It took me one month to do the same on HP/AIX/SUN/NT/TSM.

Subject: Tape performance tuning help
I have been asked to perform some performance tuning on some WinNT, Win2k,
Sun, AIX systems. We just received a 3583 with 2 3580 drives, and I need to
show some performance numbers across those platforms. This is currently a
sandbox environment. I am interested in any tips/techniques for tuning the
OS or Tape drive options for enhancing performance. I am also interested in
any tools that can be used to monitor the system to isolate bottlenecks.
Lastly if there is any good written material that you could point me to I
would appreciate it.
I want to first get some base results using OS commands, then compare that
to the results that TSM gets.
