Hi Geoff,

We've done something similar recently. We've installed an M80 and moved to
server 4.2. You'll find a server patch out there already - 4.2.0.1 - and
there are known issues with this. You'll find that you can only register
each licence file once, so you can't register - for example - 3 sets of the
50mgsyslan.lic files. This is awaiting an APAR from Tivoli - no date for
this yet. You'll have to run with your server out of licence compliance for
a while - doesn't do any harm, but puts loads of messages in the activity
log.

We installed server 4.2 as a new install, then applied patch 4.2.0.1 and
upgraded the db. We then took a dbsnapshot of an exisiting database and put
that onto the M80. This wasn't so bad as the M80 was replacing the other
server. One thing to be careful of if your doing this is that co-location
isn't set to yes. If it is, the server will look for the tapes in the other
server (caused us a small problem as the 'original' server is still live
too!)

We're doing this again in a couple of weeks! (Replacing an S7A with an
M80).

Do you know that TSM server 4.2 seems to need AIX 4.3.3 to run? There's
also been a change with the DRM licence - there's a line in one of the
readme's that tells you about it - but I can't remember which one.

Good luck!

Subject: New M80

Well folks, my M80 arrived and is sort of up. There is still much work to do
before it will be moved to production, so while I'm thinking about things I
thought I'd ask some advice from all of you. Please, anyone, feel free to
chime in with any experience they have had, good or bad, as it relates to
moving TSM to a new server.

The one question that comes to mind first is this. I received TSM Server 4.2
the other day and my plan is to use it. Should I worry about installing 4.1
and upgrading or just install 4.2 and import the most current DB backup?
Things should be fine but who knows for sure. Since 4.2 is new I doubt
anyone has done this yet.

Thanks for the suggestions in advance....
