I would first try to see if it's TSM or the host or the network.
1. Take a large file, at least 100 MB, preferably more, of non-blank data,
doesn't matter what.
Make sure client compression is turned OFF.
Do a selective backup of it 5 or 6 times, time it with a watch, see if
you can get consistent times.
2. Now take the same file and FTP it to your TSM server host, also 5 or six
times.
TSM can't ever be quite as fast as FTP, but for a single file, it shouldn't
be more than about 10% slower.
If you get the same slow times with FTP and TSM, the problem is either the
network or the host, not with the TSM server software.
- Have your network guys check for errors/retries on the port or switch;
having the network card set differently on the host and the switch can cause
slowdowns similar to what you describe. No errors show up on NT, just on
the network ....
If FTP is as fast as it should be and only TSM is slow, the problem is in
TSM:
- run Q DB F=D, see if your DB cache hit ratio is at least 98%
- Check the host, is all the memory on line or have you lost some?
Hope that gives you some ideas that help..

Subject: NT TSM Performance dying by 30% a day!!
My TSM Proliant NT4.0 Sp6 server was running fine until Monday.
Since then it has slowed down each night by around 30% and is causing many
problems.
The hardware and operating system seem fine.
TSM has been checked and I can't see anything obvious wrong. No changes were
made to parameters.
Backups over 2 sites to a single server are all degraded by the same amount,
so the network seems to be OK.
Both our TSM servers have been rebooted in the past 24 hours... still the
same!!!
Has anyone got any Ideas, as the whole thing is dying rapidly.
Many Thanks
Tony
