What we did find is that the default for "quiet" had changed. I had to change my script that starts expiration to explicitly include QUIET=YES. If you are expiring hundreds of thousands of files I supposed having "quiet=NO" could make it take a bit longer if your db is huge and busy, since that would add bunches of messages to your log, but I doubt that's the problem....
