That is a new one on me. Per the last Performance Tuning Guide, a bit
long in the tooth, LARGECOMMBUFFERS was recommended Yes.

So let me get this straight:

Windows clients - set LARGECOMMBUFFERS to No
UNIX, Novelll, etc. - set LARGECOMMBUFFERS to Yes

How about UNIX clients backing up to a TSM Server on Windows?

Hi Andrew, is the recommendation to not use LARGECOMMBUFFERS under
Windows
new? I don't recall hearing this before...

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Len,

Yes, whenever you upgrade any TSM Windows client, you should stop all
TSM
client services. If you do not do this, then some of the files will not
be
updated "in place", and you will be prompted to reboot in order to pick
up
the changes.

As to the performance problem, there are no other changes you need to
make
to make it work, except, that in general, you should always avoid using
LARGECOMMBUFFERS YES on Windows

Andy

Hello Andy

I see that IP22373_15.exe is now available on the
service.boulder.ibm.com
download site.

This fixtest appears to also fix the RC 4 probem and the performance
problem.

Can you tell us a little more about the performance problem fix. Are
there
any changes that we might want to look at besides installing the
fixtest.

PS in the readme file it says that for an uninstall of the client, one
should
stop the tsm services first. Should this also be done if doing an
upgrade.
   An upgrade from 4.2?

Many thanks for this update. len
