SANergy moves well-known file sharing from LAN to SAN. If you forget for a moment about SAN all the features are as of LAN file sharing. So many clients can mount the filesystem but only one can write to particular file at the moment. Even a hundred hosts can write simultaneously but to hundred separate files. Every client locks its file on write preventing others to read garbage. And exchange of those file locks goes through good old LAN.
So for today you have a possible scenario: Client backups to shared FILE pool through SAN; Server backups and migrates data from file pool to tape pool. When TSM 5.1 becomes available we can hope it will allow the latter to happen without big TSM server involvment. The server will initiate the process and the SAN devices (will this be the switch, or a router) will move the data. This would free the TSM server FC adapter (and prevent it to become bottleneck moving data back and forth). The SAN disk is shared, is "available" for every client, but can not be used concurrent by every client ? Wright ? Wouter.
