Estimated capacity is "estimated". You can define it is 1 MB or 2000 GB. It
is just a prediction. When data is actually written and tape end reached
TSM changes this value to actual capacity.
So do not look to volumes in "Filling" state, look on to "Full" ones.
Or you can check (and change but be careful) in device class. If the FORMAT
is 3590(E)B this means uncompressed. If it is 3590(E)C then it is
compressed. If is DRIVE then the maximum drive capacity is used (usualy
with compression).
And on the end: If compression is already done at the client side tape
drives will be unable to do much more. So even with drive compression
turned on client compression will take over. So to use drive compression
you have to disable client compression.

Hi Maurice

Are we talking about the estimated capacity being over 10GB (I do have
quite a lot of volumes in this state).

Thanks very much for your help

If you do a Q VOLUME, you can see how much data is written on a tape.
If you use 10GB tapes, and there is more GB's written, you can assume that
there is hardware compression.
