Here is a description of the APAR:

APAR= IC31516  SER=                            IN INCORROUT
PASSWORDACCESS GENERATE DOES NOT WORK IF MACHINE NAME, NODE NAME
AND PASSWORD ARE ALL THE SAME.

Status: OPEN                                Closed:

Apar Information:

RCOMP= 5698TSMCL    TIVOLI STR MGR  RREL= R42N
FCOMP=                              PFREL= F     TREL= T

Return Codes:

Applicable Component Level/SU:

Error Description:
When using passwordaccess generate and the machine name, the
node name, and the password are all the same, the encryption
scheme can result in having 0 symbols. This means that the
password will appear to be corrupt in the tsm.pwd file.
User will be prompted for the password even if it was alreaady
set and using passwordaccess generate. This occurs because

the encrypted password cannot be read.

Local Fix:
Do not use the same nodename and password.

****Should I upgrade the client to the next release 4.1.3 or should I go up
into the latest 4.2 client?

A Tivoli Storage Manager V4.2 client can perform backup, restore, archive,
and retrieve functions to a Tivoli Storage Manager V4.1 server. Therefore,
it would be wise to go ahead and upgrade your client to the latest of
4.2.1.0 or even patch 4.2.1.23.

It is not recommended that you uninstall the client in the README.ftp file
but it wouldn't hurt!

Subject: AIX client Password Problem

        I sent a note earlier about some of my aix clients failing on backup
due to invalid password file. We reset the password
    and it is ok for awhile then happens again. Someone responded that there
was a fix APAR IC31516, but I can not find this fix
    in the version 4.1 clients. I am running 4.1.2 client on server 4.1.5.
Should I upgrade the client to the next release 4.1.3 or
    should I go up into the latest 4.2 client. Also do I have to remove the
previous version, or can I just install over it.

    Thanks
     Mike Anderson
