Um, for tape drives and stuff, I don't think the accounting log will help
much, unless you look at media wait times. What I would do is use the
dsmulog utility to write the dsmserv stdout to files, and implement a
cronned utility that keeps those files. I have my dsmulogs (roughly the
same stuff as the activity log) going back about a year, so trending tape
drive usage gets a lot easier if you write a script to go through and
collate mounts and dismounts. I also have a cronned process that does q pr,
q sess, q mo, and q stg and stores it in a circular alog.

I'd post some of my scripts, but I don't have the time to go through legal's
release process.

Subject: Re: Historical data from a backupset/archive (eg. September
2001)

Hello TSM'ers
Anybody successful in getting historical data from dsmaccnt log or a
backupset. We are trying to do some trending with old backup data (to see
the justification of new drives). I need to have what it would take for a
full restore of a client in Sep/01, Jan/02, and current. Right now I have
the current in all kinds of ways, it is the history that I am having
trouble putting together. Any ideas out there.
Thanx in advance for y'all's help.
