We haven't tried it with SCSI drives and NTutil. We've tried it with SAN drives and NTutil and with and without the TSM drivers.

The Magstar driver is overridden. The TSM driver is not compatible with NTUTIL to my knowledge. There are also specific ways the drivers have to be installed. Have you tried doing this with SCSI drives and NTUTIL and the TSM drivers? I am guessing not. I am presuming that you have already installed the TSM SAN agent and configured the drives. If not, then the Magstar driver is in control. -----Original Message----- From: Gloeer, Kirsten [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Monday, February 18, 2002 4:57 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Backup NT Server via SAN with Emulex LP8000 > - TSM Server connected to the SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to > LAN Yes. > - 3494 library connected directly to the SAN via Fibre Yes. > - NT4 Server(s) connected to SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to > LAN Yes. > On the Win4 server can you see the SAN attached drives and access > them? With the EMULEX driver 4.4.52 it was possible to see the drives. However, it wasn't possible to access the drives. With the EMULEX driver 4.4.53a it is neither possible to see the drives nor to access them. > Can the current (LAN path) client access the TSM server (manual backup from desktop) and can the TSM > > GUI see all the SAN drives (mappings - should be the same when viewing mappings through explorer) The TSM client was deinstalled. He could access the TSM server on the LAN path. regards, Kirsten -----Original Message----- From: Joe Cascanette [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, February 15, 2002 4:42 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Backup NT Server via SAN with Emulex LP8000 Could you describe your layout abit: ie: - TSM Server connected to the SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to LAN - 3494 library connected directly to the SAN via Fibre (or connected via SCSI to TSM Server) - NT4 Server(s) connected to SAN via Fibre and TCP/IP connection to LAN On the Win4 server can you see the SAN attached drives and access them? There are different drivers for Win2000 (but win2000 picks up the LP8000 - you need to change this - use update driver and tell it to use Windows update). You also require a different client to backup directly to tape (LAN FREE) (see SAN storage agent guide), however if this path is not found it will use the LAN path to get to the diskpools. Not sure about the RS/6000, but if it is attached to the SAN with your library then why not?! Has anyone tried this? It is possible to access disks from the NT server via SAN and it is possible to access the 3590E1A drives via an RS/6000.
