In an automated tape library, you use optical barcode labels to specify
the magnetic tape labels. This is done at the time you check them in.
The manual says:
Examples
Task
Label tapes in a library named AUTO automatically as you are checking the
volumes in.
Command:
label libvolume auto search=yes labelsource=barcode
checkin=scratch overwrite=yes
The only way to change the label of a tape that is already in the
library is to check it out, change its barcode label, and then check it
back in as a new tape.
As long as you are using optical barcode labels on the tape cartridges,
overwrite=yes is OK, if you always use it with labelsource=barcode.
