Why are you writing a 19GB dataset to the VTS? The VTS is designed to
handle small datasets, usually a few 100MB and at most what you can fit
on one 3490 cartridge. To do this backup the VTS will have to mount 19+
scratch volumes. The VTS will also need space on the VTS disk cache for
such a large dataset, so you could have the VTS spending time trying to
offload data from the disk cache to the 3590 stacking tapes. This could
be slowing down your backup. What else is happening on the VTS when you
are doing this backup? Which model of VTS do you have?

Subject: TSM DB Fullbackup 19GB takes 4 hours on OS/390 VTS

Dear *SM Gurus

The TSM DB Fullbackup (19GB) takes about 4 hours on OS/390 with VTS. I
haven't found any descriptions for parallelisation, eg. maxpr or mountp.
Is it in the tec. nature, the DB will be backed up in sequenz?
