On AIX upgrade you will have to uninstall TSM Driver for 4.3 and later install the one for 5L. It is recommended to write down the driver configuration by saving the output of 'lsdev -Cc adsmtape' and 'lsdev -Cc library' - on uninstall of the driver all those devices are deleted and have to be recreated. If there are Magstar or IBM Ultrium drives Atape.driver might need to be upgraded (better before OS upgrade). I cannot say what caused ATM adapter problem but it is outside TSM. Library and tape definitions should not be lost. Only /dev/lbX and /dev/mtY will be deleted as mentioned above. Even if they are messed and have to be recreated it can be done without modifying/deleting the devclass defined on top of them. And there is no need to mess with stgpools as well. You can delete all the drives from a library and recreate them without problem. You can delete library and drives without touching the devclass. If library is created again under same name nothing else has to be done. If the library name is changed you can 'upd dev <class> libr=<new library name>'. Again no need to delete the devclass and stgpools. And volumes will stay in place, just libvolumes will show up in "another" library. After checkin in the "new" library TSM will realize where they are and continue using them.
