Don't know who you have been talking to at Tivoli Client Support(I guess, as this has
nothing to do with server version).
To clarify some things:
1. Yes, there is supported BMR products for Tivoli. However, as theese products are
not produced by Tivoli, Tivoli has no support for theese products. But, the
manufacturer(TKG or Cristie) do support them.
2. I am a IBM Software Advanced Member. Tivoli has an agreement with TKG making it
possible for Tivoli to sell the product directly or through the channel. So, it not
supported, but it's sold? If I start the e-configurator, I can configure the TKG Bare
Metal Restore product. This means that the BMR product from TKG is sold through
Tivoli.
3. For Cristie Disaster Recovery, it's supported through Cristie.
Both of theese products use TSM as a media manager, and relys on TSM's policy's.
If I goto to Tivoli, and buy TSM, it's supported by Microsoft Windows. However, this
doesn't mean I can talk to Microsoft Support regarding problems with TSM. Only thing
Microsoft says, is that TSM works, and is certified for Windows.
The same thing goes for TKG BMR and Cristie Disaster Recovery. You have been talking
to either support or development. They do not however support theese products(of
course!). You want support, goto the manufacturer. Same things as with all other
products.
I've have customers running both of theese products, and I can insure you that theese
products really work great using TSM as a information store. TKG BMR even uses the
information that the TSM client already has backed up. This is not however the case
with Cristie. With Cristie, you'll have to do full backups, but only of system files.
Check this with Tivoli Sales, instead of Tivoli Development/Support, as the technical
guys doesn't handle support for the products.

I have spoken to TSM Tech Support both by phone and through this
list serve. They have all said, TSM does not support BMR, nor did they or
anyone else have options for this. How is it that you have come up with this
information and no one else has?
- What is your definition of BMR?
- Is this valid working software?
- Are you using it?
- Have you tested it?
- What client version does your option #1 use?
Is there a TSM engineer out there that would like to comment on these two
different BMR products for TSM, please?

There are two different BMR products for TSM:
1. TKG Bare Metal Restore
- Supports Windows NT/2000, AIX, Solaris and HP/UX.
- Uses TSM backup/restore client
- Requires a UNIX box for the server software.
- Can boot from CD or diskett
2. Cristie PC Bax Disaster Recovery
- Support Windows NT and Windows 2000.
- Has it's own backup/restore client, which uses only full backups of
system files. Connects to TSM server using API.
- Boots from LINUX diskettes.
