Oooh, that's great - that should be a significant improvement. Thanks Alex!

There's now a functionality to EXPORT directly to a server (not via virtual volumes). Ah, here it is. Alex Paschal Storage Administrator Freightliner, LLC (503) 745-6850 phone/vmail TSM 5.1.5 introduces 2 new features to the export/import functions: 1) Customers will now be able to issue exports directly to another server and have the specified server perform the import immediately. 2) The MERGEfilespaces option has been added to the import function to merge client files into existing filespaces, if they exist. If MERGEfilespaces=Yes is specified, Dates=Relative is not allowed. These features are available from both the command line and the Web client. The command line syntax for the existing export functions has not changed in TSM Version 5. The corrected syntax to export directly to another server is: EXPort Admin [admin_name] TOServer=server_name [PREVIEWImport=No|Yes] [Replacedefs=No|Yes] EXPort Policy [domain_name] TOServer=server_name [PREVIEWImport=No|Yes] [Replacedefs=No|Yes] EXPort Server [FILEData=None|Al|ARchive|Backup|BACKUPActive|ALLActive| SPacemanaged] [FROMDate=date [FROMTime=time]] TOServer=server_name [PREVIEWImport=No|Yes] [MERGEfilespaces=No|Yes] [Replacedefs=No|Yes] EXPort Node [node_name] [FILESpace=file_space_name] [FSID=file_space_ID] [UNIFILESpace=file_space_name] [Domains=domain_name] [FILEData=None|Al|ARchive|Backup|BACKUPActive|ALLActive| SPacemanaged] [FROMDate=date [FROMTime=time]] TOServer=server_name [PREVIEWImport=No|Yes] [MERGEfilespaces=No|Yes] [Replacedefs=No|Yes] -----Original Message----- From: Prather, Wanda [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, November 22, 2002 8:37 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Migration from AIX to Solaris Al, As far as anything I have ever read here and in the manuals, moving the DB across OS's is NOT supported. What you describe will work going from AIX to AIX, but if it works going from AIX to Solaris, it's an unsupported accident. The other issue is the data that exists on tape. If you were able to NFS mount the DB to Solaris and use it, then what happens when you try to do a RESTORE? You are using a TSM-on-Solaris tape driver to read data that was written with TSM-on-AIX tape drivers. I don't know if that is feasible and again, it isn't supported if a problem does occur. I've heard that somewhere in 5.2 or higher Tivoli is planning something to help moving a server across platforms, but we aren't there yet.
