A backup is considered LAN-FREE when the data does not pass through the LAN. If data comes from internal SCSI disks and goes through the HBA straght to the tapes, then no data was transmitted on the network. For server-free backups, then you need data on the SAN backed up to tapes on the SAN.

If the data is not on the SAN then how is it gonna be backed up "LAN-free"? It's just not possible. -- Joshua S. LAN FREE either the data from the SAN or not from the SAN it will backup using LAN FREE or through the fiber. To use it with SAN, do we have to keep the data to be backuped on SAN storage or can it be local data ? Regards, Tuncel Mutlu
