Henry, I had similar poblems when copying from tape to tape, especially with large files (> 1 GB). I've solved it by changing the SCSI chain (two SCSI controllers in TSM server). It was first SCSI1-drive1 and SCSI2-ROBOT-DRIVE2. I've changed it to SCSI1-DRIVE1 and SCSI2-DRIVE2-ROBOT so that the data didn't had to pass through the robot arm any more.
It took me a few weeks to solve it. IBM changed the drives as well a few times without any result.
