Hi, I guess you may be observing a bug (feature?) in your file system. Under NT4 /not sure particulary about SP6/ 255 is up to my knowledge the limit of the NTFS file system.
However, under circumstances the NTFS will not prevent you from creating longer path/names (I saw that on network mounted NTFS volumes: f:\some-directory\ was shared and when accessin it over network/SMB 255 was the limit for network mapped names. So if an application created over network a-file-with-255-chars-name the length of name seen on F: was 55 + the length of "some-directory"�s name. On that file server even some microsoft tools could not cope with such (F:) path/name combinations. We ended with redesign of directory structure.
