Peter, On an H70 AIX 4.3.3 we tried to upgrade as follows: 4.2.1.9 -> 5.1.5.0 -> 5.1.6.0
However, the upgradedb hung at 5.1.5.0 three times. Conversations with TSM Support said this was a known problem - something to do with hanging while examining the Groups table for orphaned System Objects. In the meantime we installed 5.1.6.0 ( without ever getting the server up at 5.1.5.0 ) and this was fine. We got a message as below: ANR9999D iminit.c(1540): ThreadId<0> Started conversion of Groups table at 103 2 3 9 12 6 then ANR9999D iminit.c(1826): ThreadId<0> Completed conversion of Groups table at 103 2 3 9 19 33 some minutes later. At our server level we have missed the (well documented) SYSTEM OBJECTS problem introduced at 4.2.2.? . I would guess that if your DB did contain orphaned SYSTEM OBJECTS then the conversion above might take longer. Even with a 'clean' DB of 102GB this took several minutes - so have patience ! Subsequently we were advised that 5.1.6.1 was a better level and so upgraded to that. Tomorrow we are upgrading our other two production TSM servers and we plan to go: 4.2.1.9 -> 5.1.6.0 -> 5.1.6.1 HTH ------------------------------------------------------------------- Ian Smith Oxford University Computing Services, Oxford, UK. ------------------------------------------------------------------- ~>X-X-Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~>X-Acknowledge-To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ~>Confirm-Reading: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~>MIME-Version: 1.0 ~>Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable ~>X-MIME-Autoconverted: from 8bit to quoted-printable by rzcomm5.rz.tu-bs.de id QAA08786 ~>Date: Fri, 7 Feb 2003 16:54:53 +0100 ~>From: Peter Duempert <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> ~>Subject: From TIVsm 4.2.1.8 to TIVsm 5.1.6.1 on IBM H70, AIX 4.3.3 ~>To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~> ~>Hi *SM-ers, ~>we want to do the above mentioned migration. ~> ~>Mig-1: 4.2.1.8 --> 5.1.0.0 --> 5.1.6.0 --> 5.1.6.1 ~> ~>Mig-2 4.2.1.8 --> 5.1.5.0 --> 5.1.6.0 --> 5.1.6.1 ~> ~>Q: Which one would You prefer ? ~>-- ~>MfG / Ciao - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ~>Peter Dmpert Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~>Rechenzentrum der Technischen Universitt Fax : ++49/531/391-5549 ~>D 38092 Braunschweig Tel : ++49/531/391-5535
