Read carefully Tivoli Storage Manager for AIX Quick Start Guide. Pay more
attention to Chapter 2. Installing Tivoli Storage Manager. It may save you
a lot of grief.
If you perform "migrate install" and dsmserv.dsk is in the
/usr/lpp/adsmserv/bin (for ADSM as in your case) or
/usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin (for previous TSM versions) directory, your
database will be upgraded.
Again in the same manual you can find that installation should be done
using "smit install_update" and later select "Install and Update from the
LATEST Available Software" (thus effectively equivalent to "smitty
install_latest").
Using "smitty upgrade" you can update only existing "adsm.*" filesets. TSM
uses "tivoli.tsm.*" filesets and *is not* considered an update to ADSM
from AIX installp perspective.

May I do an upgrade to Version 5, Release 1, Level 5.0 from smitty
upgrade??
