And another thing: Changing the node name may require you to reset the TSM password on the client. You should find out when you test the selective backup....

To double check: Start the backup client GUI. Do a selective backup of any file. Check on the TSM server end to see if a NEW filespace name is created. If yes, you have a problem. If no, you've got the results you want! The difference for Windows: On Windows, the filespace name is the UNC version of the drive name, which includes the hostname. So you have to rename each filespace, as well as renaming the node. -----Original Message----- From: Farren Minns [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, July 14, 2003 11:30 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: Changing a node name It's a Unix (Solaris) Client. It is very large and has been registered on the TSM server as FRED and subsequently backed up. Now (please don't ask me why) we are having to change the hostname of this machine to FRED.companyname.com (yes, that will be the actually host name. It's a fix from Oracle! ). Anyway, my question is, can we change the name of it such that we won't have to back it all up again. I can see under the edit client node menu that there is an option to change the node name. Can I just go into this and change FRED to FRED.companyname.com, and will this do the trick? The server is over 200GB and I don't want to have to back this up again unless really really really necessary.
