Thank you, I have only 2 drives and I had the element numbers switched. -Bob A.

With Atape. I have versions 7.1.5 thru the latest 8.2.5 Atape driver running across these systems. David N. You setup the lbx defination with the TSM driver... and let cfgmgr find the tape drives as the normal rmt# devices... that's fine. The problem you are seeing probably due to element number mismatches. ADIC changed how the element numbers in the Scalar 1000 worked at some point. You will want to play the game of "match that SCSI id #" to the element number for a bit. Takes a bit to reverse engineer your system sometimes, but not impossible -- just a pain in the ass. Also once saw a batch of brand new bad tapes cause an issue with labeling once. That was fun. We'll never buy TDK again here. David N. I understand that Tivoli either uses the TSM device driver for non-IBM devices and Atape on AIX for IBM devices. What does one do when you have a mis-match of device types and the TSM device driver claims the Scalar 1000 medium changer and the Atape device driver claims the IBM LTO tape drives. Typically the TSM device driver defines changers with the "lbx" definition and tape drives with the "mtx" definitions. Atape for IBM devices uses the "smcx" and "rmtx" definitions. Is it possible to mix definitions, i.e. "lbx" and "rmtx"? I am able to define the library and tape drives in this manner but the label process fails with the changer unable to return the labeled cartridge to the proper storage location. TSM version is 4.2.0. Bob
