You have to make very certain that both level0|1|2's & logs are done by the same, ie. either onbar or ontape.
ontape does backup logs together with the level0|1|2 (it says something like 'this tape contains logs ### - ###'), but it does not mark the logs as backed up so onbar won't miss out on them. Make sure that 1) LTAPEDEV is not set to /dev/null, and 2) nobody runs ontape -c or -a 3) onbar -l is run either periodically or as the logs fill up (using the ALARMPROGRAM thingie) onbar is waaaaay much better than ontape, but we also do the odd ontape level0, you never know... -----Original Message----- From: ADSM: Dist Stor Manager [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Jozef Zatko Sent: 18 February 2004 10:57 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Using more than one utility to backup Informix Hello guys, I have one quick (hope easy) question about backing up Informix databases. Is it safe to use two different backup tools independently to backup Informix data? I have Informix server, which was backed up using Ontape. Recently we implemented TDP for Informix and started to use onbar. But Informix admin still wants (at least for some time ) to use also Ontape. I am not sure how these backup utilities manage Informix logs. Isn't it possible that Ontape during its backup will backup also some logs which will not then be backed up by onbar (will be marked as archived)? Is it possible that later restore using onbar will not be done correctly because of this? My version of Informix is 7.31UC3 Thanks Ing. Jozef Zatko Login a.s.
