As the names imply, those files are the "Scheduled Backup session LOG file" (DSMSCHED.LOG)  and the "aDSM/TSM Error LOG file" (DSMERROR.LOG).

Your keeping or deleting these is a personal choice.  They have nothing to do with the operation of TSM. They are created as necessary/needed.  The contents of these files is managed via SCHEDLOGRetention and ERRORLOGRetention options specified in DSM.OPT/DSM.SYS !

Your DSM.OPT/DSM.SYS files would be more important to retain a copy of, then these !

TSM Novell client upgrade

Hello,

I  Recently upgraded Novell TSM clients from 4.2.2 to 5.2.2

Here is my procedure

1) From The TSM Client installation directory save the DSMSCHED.LOG,
DSMERROR.LOG , THE DSM.OPT
.PWD FILES To a save area.
2) Unload the scheduler module (unload DSMCad.NLM)
3) Install the TSM client using the Desktop client CD

4) PLACE THE SAVED FILES IN THE SAVE AREA
BACK INTO THE TSM CLIENT INSTALLATION
DIRECTORY

5) Load the DSMCAD.NLM

My question is was it necessary to copy the dsmsched.log and the
Dsmerror.log
To the save area?

Doesn’t the new client just updates the files to the new
Client level?

Config is
TSM version 5.2.1.3 running AIX 5.1
Novell client OS 5.1 SP6

thanks
