Matt, I started using TSM fresh here in December 2003 on a Redhat Linux ES 2.1 kernel 2.4.9-e.27, on an IBM Intel x335 e-server. Have been running TSM server for Linux 5.2.2.2 with an IBM 3582 TapeLib (two LTO2/LTO1 fiber connected drives), a 7200 SAN, with server fiber optic cards etc.
I'm backing up one main NT 2003 server, several other Linux Redhat ES 2.1 servers, and one new AIX P630 server, plus a few PCs now (more to come), all running the latest TSM client versions 5.2 something. I backup Veritas & NT backups of Exchange 2003, plus standard Oracle DB backups and image Informix DBs. All is working well and I've had no problems at all (except trying to upgrade to 5.2.2.3 server), but as you can see we are not a big TSM setup... hope this gives you some comfort. The reason for the change is to reduce the impact of hardware failure, allow for database maintenance within a reasonable window and (less importantly) possibly improve backup performance. The question is, does anyone have any experience running your TSM environments on Linux and, if so, how did it all work? Also, we use a piece of software called Distributape by Gresham to manage our tape library on the mainframe. If anyone uses this on Linux, I'd be especially interested to hear of your experiences.
