Don't know if anyone can help me on this one. We're getting ANR8302E errors on our 9840C tape drives during RSR (reverse space record) requests. These typically occur during reclamation and move operations on all drives.
A pvr trace shows the following: 12:27:30.205 [26][pvr.c][11487]: PVR I/O agent (26) processing POS request. 12:27:30.205 [26][pvrgts.c][1370]: Common tape pos. 12:27:30.205 [26][pvrgts.c][6108]: Size of block header is 48. 12:27:30.205 [26][pvrgts.c][1469]: Positioning tape volume G00829 to 70724.48. 12:27:30.220 [26][pvrgts.c][5727]: Positioning from block 9460068 to block 70724. 12:27:30.220 [26][pspvr.c][2651]: PvrTapeIoctl: function = 0x8402C044 12:27:30.220 [26][pspvr.c][2656]: PvrTapeIoctl: STIOCTOP op = 14, count = -8388607 12:27:30.220 [26][pvrtape.c][1924]: Error performing RSR operation on drive TSM3_GS02STKL5500 (\\.\mt12.0.1.10) I'm curious about the negative count that shows up in the trace for the number of records that the tape is being asked to move backwards across. Is this correct? If it is, and bearing in mind this happens on all my drives, do you think it's a software or hardware problem. I'm talking to both IBM and StorageTek, but both seem to be implicating the other. The only common denominator seems to be that this error typically occurs on the media we get the greatest compression ratios on - say 10:1. Environment is v5.2.2.5 on Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 using ADSMSCSI device driver. Regards Neil Schofield Yorkshire Water Services Ltd.
