See my earlier response to this append. There is also something in the append below that is not correct that I wanted to point out.
Data Protection for SQL 5.2.1 does not "manage the backups and delete the expired backup by himself". That was true with the very old version 1 of the product. But starting with version 2, Data Protection for SQL uses TSM Server policy management. Again, the BACKDEL parameter setting has to do with a technique that Data Protection for SQL uses for deletion of temporary TSM Server objects that it uses in unique situations such as a change in the management class.
