I too did the more risky "OS and TSM at the same time" on my 8
TSM servers with no problems.. However your mileage may vary...

Subject: Re: Update tsm 4.2 to 5.2

TSM 5.2 requires AIX 5.x and is not supported on AIX 4.3.3

When I was upgrading, I was told the best method was:
1) backup the system completely
2) upgrade to TSM 5.1.(latest) on AIX4.3.3 - stabilize
3) upgrade to AIX 5.x - stabilize
4) upgrade to TSM 5.2.x on AIX 5.x - stabilize

Personally, I chose the dangerous route. Update TSM and AIX at the same
time in one big step (after a complete backup). It worked fine for me.
