It's possible to simply begin backing up the new server as normal, and if/when a restore is required of the old servers data, bring the new server up with the old servers nodename.
Or, if the old server is decomissioned and the disk is simply moved to a new machine, using the NODENAME option in dsm.sys to give the new server the old servers nodename and you should just be able to continue backing up / restoring as normal. ...ah, unless when you say server you're talking TSM server, not 'Client machine'....
