Hi Allen... Good recommendations, but there are some issues with your suggestions...
Using the MOVE DATA command actually moves the data -- moving it back to optical means burning another WORM platter... Again, I don't have the time nor the budget to be re-burning 2000 platters, and as I mentioned before, I don't have the spare disk capacity to let this data live on disk until this migration process is complete. As for storagepool backups... There are redundant sites storing the data, so there are no storagepool backups on site. And personally, I've found 3995 to be quite reliable when used as intended... That is, occasionally. =) (I've also been to sites where some platters have several thousand mount counts. That's just silly -- data that gets used that often should be on disk!) Anyway... I'm still looking for the answer to the question I originally asked... How exactly do I determine which side of a platter a particular piece of data is on? It sounds like I'll be making a phonecall to TSM support and pushing this one all the way up the ladder to the developers. =) -JD.
