The first question I ask in connection failure cases is:
  "Is it plugged in?"
It's amazing how often the answer is discovered to be "No".
That is, a network cabled has come loose from its connector,
a router/switch has been accidentally turned off, etc.

Start with the basics, and zero in on the problem area.
