Won't hurt a thing if you turn it on. TSM doesn't know it's happening,
so it has no impact on TSM operations.

IF you have compression turned on at your TSM client, the data is
already compressed, and the tape drive probably won't be able to
compress it any more. In fact, there are SOME cases where the data can
grow a bit if it is compressed a second time. But if you have a mix of
ordinary AIX and Windows servers, that is generally not enough of an
issue to worry about.

I think most people will recommend having the drive doing compression,
over having the client do the compression.

Subject: Re: Tape Compression

We are currently not using tape compression. How bad is it to start
using compression in the middle or everything? Or should I not use
compression?

Thanks!
