I'm sorry but I fail to see the logic in not using battery-backed cache in the RAID controller. If the cache is used for writes, then battery back-up is an absolute must. Granted the uncommitted transactions can be rolled back, but battery-backed write cache is the only way to guarantee transactions that are committed actually hit the oxide.
